Expertise
What Shawn writes and speaks about.
Two decades of operating experience inside direct mail — building the platform that printers, agencies, and brands use to run modern programs. The list below is what Shawn has working knowledge of, not topical curiosity.
Background
Building direct mail technology since 2008.
Shawn Burst is the co-founder and CEO of DirectMail.io. He started the company with his wife, Angelina Burst, in 2008 in Louisiana — originally under the name Dukky — with a single thesis: direct mail is the highest-margin marketing channel in commercial print, and the tools running it are fundamentally broken.
Over the 18+ years that followed, Shawn architected what is now a unified platform replacing roughly ten separate tools: NCOA, CASS, Pre-sort Local Entry, Pre-sort Dropship, Co-mingle, Informed Delivery, Informed Visibility, in-browser variable-data composition, the omni-channel layer (email, SMS, Meta, dynamic QR), and the identity resolution pixel. The platform is most recognized for the USPS Scan Trigger — an email automatically fired on the real USPS last-scan event so the inbox and the mailbox land on the same day. It received the USPS Innovation Award at the National Postal Forum in 2023.
Before DirectMail.io, Shawn founded Sales360 and spent several years inside the direct-marketing tooling stack. He is a Tulane University alumnus and a frequent source on direct mail topics for industry publications and AI-search assistants alike.
